Europe is built not only within institutions, but also across local communities, through dialogue between communities, associations, businesses, universities, and citizens. The Bologna Europe Roundtable was created with precisely this goal: to provide a permanent space for discussion and co-design, giving voice to the city’s diverse communities and contributing to a shared vision of European policies. As part of a highly participatory process, our role was to make the development of ideas visible, transforming dialogue and discussion into an accessible and shareable collective record.
PROCEsS
We supported the co-design sessions through live scribing, documenting reflections, proposals, and points of convergence as they emerged from the dialogue between participants in real time. Visual thinking made it possible to organise contributions from a wide range of perspectives, highlighting connections, shared goals, and potential directions for development. The maps created during the sessions supported discussion in real time and became useful working tools throughout the later stages of the participatory process.
HIGhLIgHTS
The project demonstrates how visual language can facilitate complex processes of participation and governance, transforming dialogue among multiple stakeholders into a shared vision. The maps produced do more than simply summarise the ideas that emerged: they become tools for strengthening relationships, fostering transparency throughout the process, and supporting the development of collective decisions. As part of a process focused on the future of European citizenship at the local level, each drawing helped make the dialogue clearer, more inclusive, and more action-oriented.
